Honoring Andy Booth: The Founder Who Built AWB
We are saddened to share that Andy Booth (Andrew W. Booth), the founder of AWB, has passed away. Andy was an engineer, builder, and steady presence whose vision created the foundation we stand on today.
AWB began in 1979, when Andy started what is still incorporated as Andrew W. Booth and Associates, Inc. What started small, Andy working out of his home basement alongside one draftsman, grew step by step into the multi-discipline firm we are today.
Andy’s career was defined by curiosity and practicality. With a background that blended mechanical engineering and structural engineering, he brought both problem-solving and real-world durability to every project.
Early on, Andy’s work in precast concrete reflected what he valued most, durable, practical solutions that held up in the real world. As the company grew, Andy kept building AWB the right way. When the industry changed and architectural sign-off became essential, he responded with the same steady leadership, bringing architectural expertise in-house and strengthening the quality of our work.
Those who worked alongside Andy remember more than a founder. They remember the culture he shaped. The team was close-knit, built on trust, shared commitment, and the kind of relationships that last decades. Even after beginning a partial retirement around 2004 to 2005, Andy remained connected. For years, he continued coming into the office regularly, often with his dog, checking in, staying involved, and encouraging the people and the work he cared about deeply.
Above all, Andy was proud. Proud that the company continued. Proud that it grew. Proud that AWB remained client-driven, focused on doing solid, pragmatic design work that supports operations without overcomplicating solutions.
We’re grateful for Andy’s legacy, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to everyone who knew him personally, family, friends, colleagues, and clients alike. We will carry forward what he started: a commitment to building with integrity, serving with excellence, and treating people like they matter.
